Tough Year Leads To Triumph

Kathy Turner of Akron, Ohio says she got the best Christmas gift ever. 

“It’s been a tough year,” she began. “I’ve had lots of chemo and radiation for cancer and that’s hard on anybody.”

But she rallied after all that treatment and felt good enough to join her two sisters on the Bingo Bugle’s World Championship Bingo and Gaming Cruise. 

“My sister scheduled us on this before all my treatments, so I didn’t really know if I’d make it,” she explained. 

And it’s a good thing she showed up for the fun because she won the whole shebang.

“I’m just glad to be alive. I never thought I’d be in the running to win this,” she exclaimed, referring to the $7,800 in cash she won. 

“I knew I won a game by myself on the first day, but I wasn’t even listed as a leader on the second day,” she said. 

But then Kathy got hot and on the last day split a win with three others and added a final win by herself to make her the champion player.

And just to add a little spice to the fun, besides the cash, the tournament directors also threw in a balcony room cruise-for-two for the next Tournament. It sails from Orlando, Florida on November 1, 2025.

Cruising is fun for Kathy. This is her fourth Bingo Bugle cruise. But one of her sisters had never been on a cruise of any kind before. 

They should be happy campers now. 

“I gave my sisters half of my cash and I kept the other,” she explained.

Oh, one other splurge the cash let Kathy purchase: “I’m gonna’ get an electric scooter. I don’t get around very well anymore.”

Cruisers played over 100 games of Bingo and got to play for over $100,000 during the week. 

“This cruise has run continually for 35 years now,” explains Tournament Director, Dennis Conroy. “That means our staff knows how to make things happen.” Players even get to play early games before the tournament ever begins. 

“They’re here to play Bingo,” said Dennis. “So, we give ‘em all the Bingo we can manage.”
